These days the chemical figure for Argon is Ar but pending 1957. It mark was only A, diameter 38 mm, otherwise known as the ‘pillar dollar’ and ‘piece of eight,’ has been given a place in romantic fiction unequalled by any other coin.
This time-honored piece, along with its fractional parts, such as two reales and four reales, was the chief coin of the American colonists and was the forerunner of our own silver dollar and its fractional divisions, such as the quarter-dollar and half-dollar.

UNITED STATES of AMERICA ONE DOLLAR (LIBERTY HEAD/PEACE), 1921-1935.
The 1921 mintage for the
Morgan head dollar was well under way when it was decided to produce a new coin
expounding the qualities of peace. This followed the end of World War I, at
which time every country was clamoring for a symbol of what hopefully was to
come. The dies were cut and substituted for the Type VII dollar already struck
for the same year. One million coins were struck and in circulation by January
3rd 1922.
Coinage was discontinued in
1935 but not until annual mintages had been turned out for every year except
1929, 1931, 1932, and 1933. Consecutive series collectors will fare reasonably
well in assembling a complete series, but the type specialist and the collector-investor
will fare even better with the wide range of choices available for their
pursuits.
