SINDH: NASIR-ud-Din MOHAMMAD QARLUGH (1246 - 1266)

Nasir al din Mohammad Qarlugh was introduce a new tanka coins series
in Sindh. His was ruled period on Multan
previous part of sindh 1249 up to 1260 AD. Nasir – ud- Din was very gentle,
studious and pious. On account of his simple habits he is known in history as
the darwesh king. Actually Sindh is situated part of south eastern now in Pakistan.
Sindh or the Indus Valley proper is a land of great antiquity and claims
a civilization anterior in time to that of Egypt
and Babylon.
Muan-jo-Daro, a ruined site near Dokri in Larkana district, is believed to be
as old as 2500 B.C. , a period during which probably the Akkadians ruled over
al-Iraq. Great ruler Nasir-ud-Din began in Sindh their personal coins struck language
in Arabic and Hindi inscription on many coins. Copper coins dated 1249 – 1259
ruler Nasir al-Din Muhammad Qarlugh bearing similar legend, as in coins it
appears that the Sindh (Multan) mint had started working from Saif al-Din
Qarlugh in 1224 A.D. (621 A.H) diameter of this tanka coin 15.60 mm.
He did not take a single pie from the state treasury for his own use and
earned his living by writing copies of the Holy Quran and selling them. His
wife her self did the whole household work. During his reign the rajput rose in
revolt and the Mongols threatened the country. Nasir – ud – Din had entrusted
all the work of the government to his minister Balban, who was also his father
– in – law. Balban was a very wise and capable man. He faithfully served the
sultan for twenty years. In February 18, 1266 AD., When Nasir–ud–Din died, he
succeeded him to the throne.
